The pair released a statement on Instagram, but one fan called it ‘insane’

Some folks on social media have been left ‘shocked’ by the way Isla Fisher announced her divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen.

The pair posted statements to their Instagram stories earlier today (5 April) announcing their separation after 20 years together.

Fisher and Baron Cohen met at a party in Sydney in 2001, several years before they both gained international fame in Borat and Wedding Crashers.

Three years later in 2004, the couple got engaged, and subsequently welcomed their first child three years after that.

Their engagement was a long one, as the pair finally tied the knot in 2010.

But after 13 years of marriage, Fisher and Baron Cohen announced they had filed for divorce last year.

“After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down. In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage,” the statement began.

“We have always prioritized our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change.

“We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.”

Many people have since flocked to social media following the surprising announcement to provide their thoughts.

In particular, it’s the beginning of the statement that has grabbed many people’s attentions, as the couple compared their marriage to a tennis match.

In fact, Baron Cohen and Fisher are literally in tennis gear in the photo posted to Instagram with the announcement.

Nonetheless, some on social media feel the announcement is a little bizarre.

People have been left shocked by the announcement.

“This is an insane way to announce your divorce,” X user wrote.

“I just can’t believe this is the way she chose to do it,” the same user added.

“not even a post but in stories is insane,” someone else chimed in, while a third added: “I’m speechless.”

Considering the couple separated in 2023, many fans will wonder why the news has only just come to light.

Well, Fisher has spoken previously about how keeping her family life private had been important to the pair.

She told The Australian Women’s Weekly: “I get nervous talking about it because I feel like, by not having my relationship in the public domain and not having spoken about how we met or really talked about our marriage publicly, it’s remained something private and valuable to me.

“But having a shared ability to find humor in the sharpness of life is always going to bring connection. And, otherwise, I just think it’s nice to keep some things for yourself.”

Rebel Wilson says her alleged experience with Sacha Baron Cohen led to her eating in an ‘extremely unhealthy way’

The actress said she felt ‘completely disrespected’ by Sacha Baron Cohen

Rebel Wilson has claimed she was ‘disrespected’ by Sacha Baron Cohen which led to her developing ‘extremely unhealthy’ eating habits in an excerpt from her newly-released memoir.

The two Hollywood actors starred in The Brothers Grimsby together in 2016 and, nearly a decade on from working together, Wilson has come out with a host of accusations about Baron Cohen.

Baron Cohen has strenuously denied all her claims.

Ahead of the release of her tell-all memoir, Wilson spoke about an ‘a**hole’ she’d previously worked with, and later named Baron Cohen as the person she was referring to.

Wilson’s book, Rebel Rising, hit shelves yesterday (April 2), where people have since rushed to read the chapter about the Borat star.

A excerpt obtained by PEOPLE ahead of its debut detailed Baron Cohen allegedly asking Wilson to ‘stick her finger up his a**’ because he thought it would make a funny scene in the film and claimed ‘it felt like [he] had sexually harassed me’.

The 44-year-old also alleged that she was asked to do a nude scene, to which she declined.

Recalling the time when they began filming on The Brothers Grimsby, Wilson claimed: “It felt like every time I’d speak to SBC, he’d mention that he wanted me to go naked in a future scene. I was like, ‘Ha, I don’t do nudity, Sacha.’”

Her book further details how she dealt with the disrespect she felt.

Wilson penned that she felt ‘completed disrespected, which led to me treating myself with even more disrespect by eating in an extremely unhealthy way’.

Baron Cohen’s reps have denied all the allegations made by his former co-star.

When previously approached by UNILAD to comment on the ongoing situation, a spokesperson for Baron Cohen said: “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.

Elsewhere in her memoir, Wilson discusses having once tried Ozempic.

Wilson decided to start losing weight in 2020 after a doctor told her that she would have a better chance of successful IVF treatment if she did so.

She began by making small changes, including long walks and a diet which was low in sugar and high in protein.

She lost around 80lb with her hard work and determination, opting to briefly try Ozempic as a way to maintain her weight loss.

While the drug has received a lot of criticism, Wilson said of it: “Someone like me could have a bottomless appetite for sweets, so I think those drugs can be good.”

Rebel Wilson claims people have come forward to her with ‘stories’ about Sacha Baron Cohen

The Pitch Perfect star said she won’t be ‘threatened’ by her fellow Hollywood star

Rebel Wilson and Sacha Baron Cohen’s feud continues.

In recent days, the Pitch Perfect star spoke of a ‘massive a**hole’ in the film industry that she worked with, whom she’s written about in her memoir Rebel Rising.

While she didn’t name him at the time, she alleged that the celebrity and his PR team were trying to ‘threaten’ her and stop press coming out about her book.

The following day, Wilson named Borat actor Baron Cohen as the person she was referring to.

The pair worked together on 2016 film The Brothers Grimsby.

In the wake of her allegations, Baron Cohen’s team have issued a statement.

They told The Hollywood Reporter: “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.”

Now Wilson has doubled down on her comments about not being threatened by her former co-star while alleging that others have come forward to her about their own experiences with Baron Cohen.

“Thanks so much who sent gorgeous messages of support in the last few days and to those who shared with me their own stories of this a**hole,” she penned to her Instagram Story yesterday (March 26).

Rebel Wilson took to her Instagram Story to address the matter.

“Don’t worry I won’t be bullied or threatened by this guy! And am working hard behind the scenes to make sure my book comes out!”

Wilson added: “Ps my book is not ABOUT this guy – this is one chapter!”

As it stands, Rebel Rising is scheduled to be released on April 2.

An extract from the chapter on Baron Cohen published by People sheds further light on Rebel’s allegations, with her claiming at one point the comedian asked her to ‘stick [her] finger up [his] ass’.

The chapter reads: “‘Okay, well, we’re gonna film this extra scene,’ SBC says. Then he pulls his pants down.

“SBC says very matter-of-factly: ‘Okay, now I want you to stick your finger up my ass.’ And I’m like, ‘What?? … No!!’ …”

Baron Cohen’s team shared nine anonymous statements supporting his version of events, including five who witnessed the filming of the scene in question and disputed Rebel’s claims.

One producer said: “As per the script, which Rebel had read and approved in advance, her character was attempting to put a finger in Sacha’s character’s butt.

“At no point did Sacha actually ask her to put a finger in his butt.”

So far, Baron Cohen and Wilson’s The Brother’s Grimsby co-stars are yet to comment on the matter.

Baron Cohen’s wife Isla Fisher also starred in the film, as well as Mark Strong, Penelope Cruz, Empire‘s Gabourey Sidibe and Peaky Blinders favorite, Annabelle Wallis.

The comedy movie has a 6.2/10 rating on IMDb pro, with one reviewer hailing it as a ‘hardcore comedy for adults’.

“The good thing about Sacha Baron Cohen’s movies is that you know exactly what you are in for when you step into the cinema,” said another The Brothers Grimsby viewer. “Anybody who is offended at the crude humour in SBC’s movies, has only themselves to blame.”

When approached by UNILAD to comment on the ongoing situation, a spokesperson for Baron Cohen said: “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.

Rebel Wilson has made yet another shocking claim about Sacha Baron Cohen and how he apparently used to humiliate her on set.

Wilson made all the headlines on Tuesday (26 March) for claims she made about Cohen, which she had made previously without identifying the ‘a***hole’ in question.

She said in an Instagram story posted on March 15: “When I first came to Hollywood, people were like, yeah, ‘I have a no a**hole policy, [it] means like, yeah, I don’t work with a**holes.’ I was like, ‘oh yeah. I mean, that sounds sensible or logical.

“But then it really sunk in [what they, the older people in the industry, meant] because I worked with a massive a**hole and yeah, now I definitely have a no a**holes policy.

“The chapter on said a**hole is chapter 23. That guy was a massive a**hole.”

The Borat star and Wilson worked together on 2016 film, The Brothers Grimsby.

In a later Instagram story, Wilson said that it was Cohen who she was talking about.

Wilson revealed who the apparent 'a**hole' is recently.

“I will not be bullied or silenced by high priced lawyers or PR crisis managers. “The ‘a**hole’ that I am talking about in ONE CHAPTER of my book is: Sacha Baron Cohen,” she wrote on her story.

Wilson has also spoke about her relationship with Cohen in her new memoir, Rebel Rising.

Recalling the time when they began filming on The Brothers Grimsby, Wilson said: “It felt like every time I’d speak to SBC, he’d mention that he wanted me to go naked in a future scene. I was like, ‘Ha, I don’t do nudity, Sacha.’”

And when they were filming one day at a soccer stadium in Cape Town, Wilson claims: “SBC summons me via a production assistant saying that I’m needed to film an additional scene. ‘Okay, well, we’re gonna film this extra scene,’ SBC says. Then he pulls his pants down … SBC says very matter-of-factly: ‘Okay, now I want you to stick your finger up my ass.’ And I’m like, ‘What?? … No!!’ …”

Baron Cohen has flat out denied saying this, as well as mistreating Wilson and pressuring her to go naked.

Sacha Baron Cohen rumoured to be joining MCU as a villain

The star could be joining the MCU in a Disney+ special

At this point, the majority of big names in Hollywood have been linked to the MCU franchise.

While a lot of the rumors amount to nothing, there are certainly some that have substance, with actors eventually finding their way over to the Marvel universe.

And there’s no surprise that the MCU is a real dream for a lot of actors, especially given a nice big payday would be on the way as well. After all, as of June last year, the MCU was the highest-grossing film franchise, with total worldwide box office revenue of a cool $26.6 billion.

The latest star to be linked to the mega-franchise is the Borat and The Dictator actor Sacha Baron Cohen, who is rumoured to be starring in a Disney+ special. Borat? In the MCU? Let’s be honest, we’d all love to see this.

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic podcast, Cohen is set to star as villain Mephisto in a Marvel Studios Special Presentation.

The insider, who has got many things right in the past, said the Disney+ special is ‘shooting right now’ on the set of the upcoming Disney+ series Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

Sneider is actually not the first to suggest that Cohen would be heading to the MCU, with Deadline reporting the same in October.

Reports first surfaced by Deadline last year that Cohen has joined the MCU as Mephisto, and will do so in the Ironheart series on Disney+.

The reports also claimed that Cohen had been spotted at Mavel’s UK Pinewood studios as he sets to join the MCU as playing the iconic villain.

Mephisto is purely a demon mastermind, clashing with the likes of Silver Surfer, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange over the years.

UNILAD has reached out to Sacha Baron Cohen’s reps and Marvel for comment.

While Cohen could be set to join the MCU, one actor who we think will not be joining anytime soon is Nicolas Cage.

While Cage has dabbled in the world of Marvel superheroes before, starring in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and two Ghost Rider movies, the actor has never actually been part of the MCU.

But when asked if he would take on a role within the MCU, the actor gave the most Nicolas Cage answer possible.

Speaking earlier this month, he said: “I’m seeing movies like TĂĄr. I’m seeing all kinds of artistic and independently driven movies. I think there’s plenty of room for everybody.

“I don’t need to be in the MCU, I’m Nic Cage.”
