Animals, may they be domestic or wild, can teach us invaluable lessons in ways we never expect. While we observe them, we learn how to truly enjoy living in the moment or discover that love can be shared unconditionally.

We have read their stories. One example is about a Pitbull mother who lost her entire litter, which died in utero and fell into grief. After a few days, an orphaned puppy was introduced to her, and her maternal instincts instantly kicked in. However, not only dogs are ready to step in as a newborn’s mama, but other animals too.

In June 2016, a retired showjumper in the Netherlands, Zindita, was in labor. A horse fertility specialist veterinarian was immediately called to the farm where she lived. Dr. Patrick Brogan instantly realized that the horse wouldn’t be able to give birth naturally, so he stepped in to assist. Unfortunately, the foal came out stillborn, and Zindita fell into depression.

However, 2 days later, something unforeseen happened. Dr. Brogan received a call about a horse named Tolanda. After giving birth to her foal, she died, and now her newborn needed a mother to step in and provide her with all the love and care she deserved.

The situation prompted the vet to introduce the 2 horses to each other. When they met, something magical happened!

The moment Zindita was introduced to the newborn foal, the mother horse instantly bonded with the baby. “She was in love and desperate to take her in,” said Dr. Brogan.

Feeling the touching moment, the vet captured a photo of Zindita and the foal and shared it on Facebook. The post immediately went viral, garnering thousands of views and shares from people around the world. This is what he captioned on his post:

“Two days ago, a group of people came together, working as a team… Saving a mare in labor but losing the foal… Today a group of people, working together, the same mare as two days ago, was introduced to a foal who had lost her mom…. This picture is taken an hour after the introduction…. It speaks for itself.”
